Joey Barton flies to France for talks with Marseille a day after declaring deal was off

Joey Barton's on-off move to Marseille appears to be back on again after the QPR midfielder said he was heading to France for talks with the Ligue One club.Barton announced the development in a series of tweets from the tarmac, as he preparerd to board a private jet.
Yesterday, the 29 year-old revealed he had been banished to train with the reserves before claiming his hopes of moving to the French giants had been shattered, leaving him "heartbroken".

Manchester City 'agree £12m fee'for Fiorentina defender Matija Nastasic'

Serbian international Matija Nastasic is said to be close to joining Manchester City for £12 million in a move that would bolster Roberto Mancini's defence. The club are reported to have agreed a fee with Italian club Fiorentina, with current City defender Stefan Savic moving in the opposite direction.
Nastasic, 19, has only spent one season at Fiorentina, making 25 appearances as his side finished 13th in Serie A. At international level he plays alongside Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic.
City's Italian manager Mancini has been tracking the player for some time and is thought to see him as a better prospect than Savic.
Montenegrin Savic, who started the Community Shield tie against Chelsea but has otherwise struggled to make the first team, signed for City from Partisan Belgrade in July 2011 - the summer that Nastasic moved from the same club to Fiorentina.
After a 2-2 draw against Liverpool on Sunday, Mancini said that his side needed to improve their defensive performances.

"We need to bring players in," he said. "We have to work hard for this over the next four or five days."
Until now, his only significant market move has been the purchase of midfielder Jack Rodwell from Everton for £12 million. Several players have left, including Adam Johnson, Wayne Bridge and Emmanuel Adebayor, while Roque Santa Cruz could soon be on his way out on loan.
Santa Cruz has been the subject of intense speculation all summer as it is clear he does not feature in Mancini's plans yet few clubs are willing to meet his high wage demands. He spent last season on loan at Real Betis, scoring seven goals in 33 matches. The Spanish club are interested in a similar deal again but have so far been unable to reach an agreement for the striker, who joined City for £17.5 million in 2009 but fell out of favour after Mark Hughes was sacked as manager.
Meanwhile, City could also make a move for Theo Walcott after the Arsenal forward's contract talks broke down. Liverpool have already made an inquiry for Walcott while City have asked to be kept informed of developments and are expected to make their move later this week.
Roberto Mancini has also had a £6.2 million bid for Swansea City's Scott Sinclair rejected. The Welsh club have now rebuffed two offers for the winger while Roma are also playing tough over long-term City target Daniele De Rossi.

Dimitar Berbatov close to Manchester United exit as he flies to Italy for medical with Fiorentina

Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has flown to Italy to complete a move to Serie A club Fiorentina."Fiorentina have agreed personal terms with Dimitar and they'll announce the deal very soon," the source, who asked not to be identified, said, adding the transfer was subject to Berbatov passing a medical.
Berbatov, who became Manchester United's most expensive player when he joined from Tottenham in 2008 for £30.75 million pounds, had reached an agreement with the Serie A club on a two-year contract with an option for a further year.
The 31-year-old was the Premier League joint-top scorer in the 2010-11 season with 20 goals but has struggled to hold down a place in Alex Ferguson's starting line-up since and was keen to revive his career in another top European league.
Ferguson made it clear it was probably time for Berbatov, who is Bulgaria's all-time leading scorer with 48 goals, to look for a move when he signed Dutch striker Robin Van Persie from Arsenal prior to the start of the Premier League season.
If the deal is completed, Berbatov will become the fourth Bulgarian in Serie A after defender Nikolay Iliev and strikers Hristo Stoichkov and Valeri Bojinov, who played for Fiorentina between 2005 and 2007.
Football experts in Bulgaria believe the transfer could also lead to Berbatov ending his self-imposed international exile.
Earlier this year, Berbatov, who quit the national team in 2010, said he would be open to an approach from coach Luboslav Penev after he moved to a club where he could play regularly.

Tottenham Hotspur agree deals to sign Moussa Dembele from Fulham and Hugo Lloris from Lyon

Tottenham Hotspur are to sign Moussa Dembélé after agreeing a fee of £15 million with Fulham. A deal could be announced as early as Wednesday. Negotiations to acquire the 25-year-old Belgian international are at an extremely advanced stage although Spurs’ hopes of signing another attacking midfielder, Shakhtar Donetsk’s Willian, have stalled after the club, again, failed to agree a fee despite chairman Daniel Levy having flown to Ukraine for negotiations.
Spurs have also been frustrated in a fresh attempt to sign Joao Moutinho with Porto refusing to budge on their €30m (£24m) valuation on the midfielder who is so highly-rated by head coach Andre Villas-Boas.
The Portuguese is understood to regard his countryman as the ideal replacement for Luka Modric – not in style but in influence on the team and also to be a talisman for the new manager – who was finally sold to Real Madrid for a fee that could rise (with add-ons) to £33m earlier this week.
As part of that deal, Spurs signed a commercial tie up with Real which will include young players being loaned between the club and also the prospect of exhibition matches being played. The sale of Modric has also unlocked transfer funds for Spurs who are set to be the Premier League’s busiest club before the transfer window closes on Friday night.
Although Spurs gave up on trying to sign Moutinho – in public at least – Villas-Boas has remained hopeful that a deal could still be struck for the midfielder who was so vital to him when he was Porto coach and who he also tried to take to Chelsea.
The signing of Dembélé will end a year-long pursuit by Spurs for the player who has made a significant impact on the Premier League since he was signed by the then manager Mark Hughes by Fulham in 2010 for just £3.2m from AZ Alkmaar and who has also attracted strong interest from Manchester United.
Spurs’ failed with a bid of £10m for Dembélé last year. Dembélé is believed to have a £15m release clause in his contract and Spurs have now activated that. Spurs remain desperate to offload fringe players such as David Bentley and Jermaine Jenas but must concentrate on strengthening the squad after Modric’s sale.
Shakhtar announced on Monday that they had rejected a bid of £11.8m for Willian, the Brazilian international, but talks are ongoing between the clubs. Although the Ukrainians insist they want £20m for the player, Spurs believe that an offer of around £15m would be successful although they are yet to submit an improved bid.
It had been hoped that a deal to sign Willian would be agreed yesterday but talks have stalled with, for now, Spurs concentrating on acquiring Dembélé who, it is hoped, will be available for Saturday’s Premier League match at home to Norwich City.
Nevertheless Willian, who was withdrawn from the squad for Shakhtar’s league match against Karpaty on Sunday, is still hopeful that he can force through a move. Villas-Boas also bid for the player last January when he was still the manager of Chelsea and is keen to bring him to England now.
Villas-Boas is desperate to bolster his squad as he mounts a challenge to bring Champions League football back to White Hart Lane.
Spurs have also been frustrated in their attempts to sign another Brazilian, striker Leandro Damiao, with his club, Internacional, insisting they want the 23-year-old international to stay for now after their valuation wasn’t met. A bid for the French midfielder Yann M’Vila was rejected by Rennes earlier this month and is unlikely to be revived.
Spurs have agreed a fee for goalkeeper Hugo Lloris but only after his club, Lyon, reduced their demands for the France captain because they want him to leave. Lyon will now accept £12m for Lloris and although personal terms are yet to be agreed, the deal is expected to go ahead.
Lloris’s arrival will prompt Spurs to seek a buyer for Heurelho Gomes who has failed to convince Villas-Boas that he can challenge Brad Friedel as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. Spurs have, alternatively, been considering a bid for Birmingham City’s young goalkeeper Jack Butland who recently made his debut for England and is available for around £8m.

Lucas out for three months after sustaining thigh injury minutes into Liverpool's draw with Manchester City

Liverpool midfielder Lucas has been ruled out for two to three months with a thigh injury, manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed.
The Brazil international suffered the injury in the opening minutes of Sunday's Premier League draw with Manchester City at Anfield.
It is a fresh blow for the 25-year-old, who had won his place back in the Liverpool side after missing most of last season following knee surgery.
Rodgers said: "It is very unfortunate. He has worked ever so hard to come back and he has been an outstanding player for me and person off the field as well.
"The indications are two to three months. It is quite a unique injury at the top of his right thigh.
"He has had a scan and we will see a specialist this evening. We'll see if it needs an operation or whether it is just recuperation."
Lucas lasted just four minutes of Sunday's 2-2 draw with the champions after first tweaking his thigh during the warm-up.
He had hoped to establish himself in Rodgers' new-look side after missing seven months of the last campaign with cruciate ligament damage.
The player himself tweeted: "No words describe my feelings at the moment. It is [sic] been hard to be positive but I am sure better days will come. YNWA."
Lucas' injury could allow an opportunity for new loan signing Nuri Sahin, brought in on a one-year deal from Real Madrid, to make his debut at Arsenal this weekend.

Ikhana Tips Falconets To Lift World Cup

Super Falcons coach KadiriIkhana has tipped the Falconets to win the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Japan if they step up their game.

Ikhana said the girls have done very well in the group stages but warned that they need to redouble their efforts and tactics to actualise their target of winning the trophy.

“The team should change their approach by playing a more organized game and put pressure on their opponents from start to finish. I am optimistic the girls can go all the way if they give it their best shot.

“I am saying this because I know the girls and what they are capable of doing when they decide to play,” the former Eagles defender stated.

On the quarter-final duel against Mexico, Ikhana said Falconets would win easily if they do not become complacent, adding that the Mexicans are very physical and should not be allowed to dictate the pace of the game. He said aside from Nigeria, host nation Japan, DPR Korea, Germany and USA are also good enough to win the cup.
