Mixed Fortunes For Nigeria Stars In Capital One Cup.
Super Eagles stars, Sone Aluko and Dixon Etuhu failed to lift their English Championships sides into the next round of the Capital One Cup (formerly Carling Cup) matches played last night in England.
At the Stadium MK in London,Etuhu was on from the start for Blackburn Rovers but failed to inspire as Steve Keane’s side lost 2-1 to their host,MK Dons and crashed out of the competition.
It was Etuhu’s fourth game for his new club since his transfer from Premier League side,Fulham this summer.
Also failing to steer his club to the nexst round last night was Aluko who came on as a second half substitute in his fourth game for Steve Bruce’s Hull City.
City gave up a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to homers,Doncaster at the Keepmoat Stadium.Aluko’s Nigerian compatriot at Hull City,Seyi Olofinjana was not dressed for the match.The former Super Eagles midfielder has not played for the club so far this season.
At the Deepdale,It was a different story however at the Deepdale where Akpo Sodje scored for the second consecutive game for League One outfit,Preston North End who walloped Crystal Palace 4-1 to move to the next round of the competition.
Sodje,who scored in last weekend’s 1-1 away draw against Bournemouth in a league game was on target on 18 minutes last night to increase Preston’s lead to two in his third game for the club.
