Super Eagles stars Joseph Yobo and Emmanuel Emenike will go head-to-head again tonight as their clubs seek a path to the UEFA Champions League group phase.
Emenike won the first half of the battle last week when he scored one of the goals as his Spartak Moscow side defeated Yobo’s Fenerbahce 2-1 in their play-off first leg in Moscow.
Yobo has a shot at revenge now as Fenerbahce welcome Spartak to the Instabul cauldron in a bid for the Turkish giants to return to the European elite.
A 1-0 win would be enough to see the Turks through on the away goals rule, but Yobo has to stop the dangerous Emenike from scoring.
Spartak have lost their last two qualifying ties for the Champions League and Emenike, on his return to Turkey since leaving Fenerbahce without playing a single game for them following a match-fixing scandal, will be keen to put things right this time.
Also in the Champions League play-offs, Nigeria stars Brown Ideye and Taye Taiwo look to be on their way into the group stages with Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv.
Kyiv welcome German side Borussia Monchengladbach after the Ukrainians won the first leg 3-1 away last week.
Ideye is Dynamo Kyiv’s key man, having scored eight goals for the club in all competitions already this season, although he was not on the scoresheet in Germany last week. Taiwo is on loan at Kyiv and eager to play in the Champions League following his loan move from AC Milan.
Both Ideye and Taiwo, along with Yobo, have been invited for Nigeria’s Nations Cup qualifier against Liberia on September 8.
The winners of the play-off ties go into the pot for Friday’s group phase draw.
