Joey Barton lifts lid on rift with QPR manager Mark Hughes and is eager to join Marseille

Joey Barton opened up his feud with Queens Park Rangers’s club bosses on Sunday night after launching a rant on Twitter against being forced to train alone at the club and saying he wants to leave.

The controversial 29-year-old called on QPR to finalise a deal which would see him move to French side Marseille on a season long loan and said he offered to tear up his contract after being banned for 12 games by the Premier League.

Barton was stripped of the captaincy at Loftus Road at the end of last season after an ugly mêlée caused by the midfielder against Manchester City saw him be banned for violent behaviour.

QPR manager Mark Hughes then sent him to train at League Two newcomers Fleetwood Town during pre-season and took the midfielder’s squad number away from him.

In 15 expressive tweets, Barton said he had offered to resign from the club after the incident on May 28 and whilst he respected Hughes for making the decisions against him, he did not agree with them.

He said “I enjoyed parts of last season and believe I am more than capable of playing this year. But the manager doesn't. Such is life.

“I have no problem with this as its (sic) my fault. I am banned for 12(10 now) games.

“I am not the type of player to sit on the sidelines and take the cash. It's not me. I could do that for the next 3 years but it's not me. I want to play football.

Barton has had a chequered time at the Loftus Road club since his arrival from Newcastle 12 months ago.

Former manager Neil Warnock made him the club captain, only for the one-time England international to criticise him on Twitter after he was sacked.

Warnock’s replacement, Hughes, maintained Barton as the captain but the player was sent from the field on the final match of the season after a series of clashes, including kneeing Sergio Aguero and launching his head towards opposing captain Vincent Kompany.

He added: “I could of appealed as is my right. I choose not to out of respect. But when I returned to the club. I am forced to train away from the 1st team.
“I am stripped of the captaincy. Then, made to train at 3pm. Then, I am hawked around on loan.
“Then, I have my shirt number taken without any notice. Then, I read I wouldn't of been signed had the current regime been in place.
“I accepted all this. I never once spoke out of turn or angrily towards anybody. I am a man. I can only take so much. I want to leave.”
